Road Safety

Road safety is an integral part of Motor Fleet Risk Management (MFRM) and QBE is committed to the promotion of road safety through its corporate partnership with Brake, the road safety charity.

The well-established division of Brake provides guidance, information and best practice case studies on effectively managing work related road safety (WRRS).

This partnership with Brake will provide the opportunity for:

  • Free 1st year subscription to the Brake "Fleet Safety Forum" for selected Fleets

  • A wealth of regular Fleet Safety Forum news and literature in hard and soft copy

  • Free one-day training for selected fleet managers as part of the Brake 'Road Safety Academy'. This can be carried out locally and all attendees receive a Power Point presentation and resources to enable them to deliver awareness training through a one hour presentation based on Brake's 'Pledge to Drive Safely'

  • Invitations to Brake's annual fleet safety events such as
    - The Fleet Safety Forum Awards for Excellence
    - Road Safety Week
    - "Best of Best" Conference
    - Fleet Safety Benchmarking Seminar

QBE promote road safety measures and best practice to reduce avoidable accidents, the frequency and cost of claims and provide fleet operators with the opportunity to create a culture of change within their businesses aimed at enhancing current risk management practise & procedures and to ensure a continual focus on work related road safety.

QBE, the business insurance specialist, has sponsored the 2011 Road Safety Week.

This is the 2nd year running that QBE has supported the week long initiative by road safety charity, Brake.

The theme this year is 'Too Young to die' and UK-wide research commissioned by QBE and Brake from more than 8,000 17 to 24 year-olds, shows that an alarming 56 per cent of young people have been endangered by risk-taking.

In the main, this entails young drivers who are speeding or drink driving.

Worryingly, this figure is supported by casualty figures which show that every 18 hours a young person is killed and every hour-and-a-half a young person suffers a serious injury on UK roads.

Matthew Crane is Managing Director of Motor for QBE.

He says: "No motor-related death, whether at the hands of young or older drivers, is acceptable and our safety specialists work closely with organisations to ensure they are operating their motor fleets as safely as possible".

We have also sponsored a 6 page information leaflet entitled “Keeping Your Distance” as crashes into the rear of third party vehicles is often high on the list of accident types within fleet claims experiences, on frequency and particularly on cost as so many of these types of incidents will involve claims for personal injury and in particular whiplash type injuries.
